Delayed! (Blog & flights :( Sorry!)

That last trip was busy & full of weather issues! When we got into LA I got a run in (4 miles) & got to eat with my old roomie there...yayyy, a real meal! She made me some salmon, veggies & cous cous! I even had a late show the next morning so I got another workout in, 5 miles on the treadmill since it was chilly in the morning then some weights! As far as food, stuck to the oatmeal in the morning & finished off my quinoa. Apple with nutbutter for a snack & stayed away from bad airplane food! This is a little delayed so sorta keeping it short! I was delayed enough that I missed my flight to go play in Austin for the weekend :( But I made it there eventually & stuck to my guns still with food mostly! & we won't talk too much about my Austin trip. It was active at least, but definitely included a few too many tacos & chips/salsa/queso! Along with a few margaritas....but like I said still included some good runs in there with one of my bestest. So I think it all evens out!

Back-back! Ahhh!

After I returned from my FLL trip on Monday afternoon I discovered I was assigned an early morning 3-day the next day to JFK & LA. I had already worked out Monday morning (my morning run in FLL went a lot smoother, clocked in a little over 4 miles & did a full tone it up ab series with some push ups and planks) then off on a LONG flight back. When I got home I contemplated a second workout of the day but needed to repack & get organized with food, not to mention my feet were still killing me! Plus I needed to leave my house at 4am at the latest the next morning & decided sleep was necessary.

I got a little sleep, was up and moving bright & early for my next trip. At that hour I'm usually not that hungry, but  know I need to jump start my metabolism. So I grabbed a coffee & lara bar as I ran out the door, a long with my liter kleen kanteen :) I saved my oatmeal concoction for when I got to SFO. Our show time (the time we meet the rest of the crew at the airport) was at 6:45am. A slightly more acceptable full breakfast time.

FORT LAUDERDALE!

So packing food paid off AND I got a Ft. Lauderdale 2 day! I haven't been able to catch a break and get a trip here yet, so I was pretty excited to come, and even happier I brought food!

Stuck to my guns on the flight and NO airplane food! I had my left over red curry Thai and a half of Salad from Trader Joe's & snacked on the PB pretzel mix. Kept it simple and drank a lot of water, always important in the sky.

When we got in the Ft. Lauderdale it was fairly easy to motivate myself to workout, not only because the weather was beautiful but one of my favorite ways to explore a new city is to run it! I changed into my running attire, grabbed one last drink of water discovered a FRIDGE @ our hotel here (a major score, all fellow flight attendants know this!) & jetted out the door as the sun was setting. I was so eager to run and explore I didn't even grab my watch, didn't look at a map, and I rarely bring my cell phone on runs. (Although this time I considered it not for safety but for picture taking, opted not to because thought I would be annoyed carrying it) Well, needless to say, I should have brought my cell phone. Dur. Won't happen again if I am running in an unfamiliar city.

Packing for a 4-day trip that might be a 1-day...

Well, tomorrow morning I sit what a new flight attendant fondly calls "airport appreciation," & by fondly, I really mean we detest "airport appreciation." Rather than your typical 12 hour on call shift that you can do comfortably from your home, you are assigned a 6 hour shift, where you must arrive at the airport dressed in uniform ready to go on anywhere from a 1-day turn flight, to a 4-day trip. To where you ask? Well, you just don't know. So packing clothes isn't easy and packing food for just the day will almost guarantee you get sent on a 4-day trip to any of our layover cities that have ZERO healthy food options. I am opting to prepare for that nightmare 4-day, and I'm fairly certain that since I will be so prepared, I won't get assigned anything & I will just sit at the airport, ALL day watching movies on my computer and sleeping. UGH. So boring. Also do to the fact I have to wake up at 5 to leave by 6 for my commute, I won't be able to get my workout in until after my shift, or until I arrive at whatever my destination may be.....siiigh, such a glamorous life.

& I thought staying healthy was hard before....

Hi Everyone, I'm a new blogger & to be frank, it seems truly odd to post about myself as if anyone out there cares what I have to say! But, well that said, a little bit about me...My name is Kelly. I'm in my mid-20s and just started a new journey in my life as a flight attendant, for what I think is the BEST domestic U.S. airline by far. (I'm not going to reveal who I work for until I get the appropriate permissions, but if you've ever flown with us, you probably already know what airline I'm referring to!) In a nut shell I'm an active, health conscious, washed up college athlete who loves to travel, read books, watch sports, attend happy hour with friends & have been trying to fit in fun runs, triathlons and just signed up for my first FULL marathon this summer. As you imagine my job makes it less than easy to find time & motivation to exercise & we all know how airport food is....Um, not exactly healthy, not to mention it breaks the bank!

I decided to start this blog for a number of reasons, but the main hope is
